This page provides details on writing microcopy for notifications.

## **What are Notifications?**

---

**Notifications **interrupt users to draw their attention to a part of the experience they aren't paying attention to at the moment. They should always contain information of value and be urgent for the person receiving them.

Notifications are usually made of at least one but frequently two pieces of text, similar to other title and description patterns.

The **titles **usually begin with the verb that describes the action a user needs to take, or the information they need to convey to create success.

The **description **adds “nice to have” information that isn’t necessary to the user’s success.

## **Rules**

---

- Notifications should include the first action the person needs to take to realize the message's value.
- Notification titles must begin with either a verb describing the action to be taken or the information necessary for success.
- Notification descriptions contain additional information that is not essential for the notification.

## **Common Patterns**

---

Common patterns are:

- {verb} the {noun} [to do X];
- to do X, {verb} the {noun};
- {verbing} the {noun} helps you do X.

Other patterns are also possible.
