This page provides information about USD support in Chaos Vantage.

## **Overview**

---

USD or [Universal Scene Description](https://graphics.pixar.com/usd/release/index.html) (.usd) is a framework and file format, developed by Pixar, that allows 3D scenes and assets to be transferred and edited on multiple applications. USD focuses on workflows that allow multiple users to collaborate on a project without conflict by using non-destructive editing, asset versions, and variations. For more information, visit [Getting Started with USD](https://www.chaos.com/blog/getting-started-with-usd-and-hydra-in-v-ray).

## **Supported USD Formats**

---

The supported USD formats are:

- usd
- usda
- usdc
- usdz

> ⚠️ Note that when unzipping a .usdz file, its assets are stored in the same folder as the original file. This could lead to overwriting some assets that have matching names. This could also lead to increased disk consumption.

## **Supported USD Versions**
