This page provides a tutorial for using the DMM plugin for Maya with Chaos Phoenix simulations.

## **Overview**

---

The instructions on this page will guide you in setting up a Phoenix simulation to interact with Digital Molecular Matter objects.

## **Steps**

---

1. Create the DMM objects.
2. From the asset manager, select the **DMM Object Node**, and turn on the **Start Splintered** option. Without this option, Phoenix FD will be unable to calculate properly the velocity of the objects when they start to break.
3. Create [PhoenixFDSimulator](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/PHX4MAYA/pages/125895496) and [PhoenixFDSource](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/PHX4MAYA/pages/125895595) as usual.
4. Make sure that only the **outputSurfaceShape** of the objects is visible. Alternatively, select this shape manually in the [Scene Interaction](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/PHX4MAYA/pages/126030021) rollout and disable the **Exclude List**.
5. Tweak the discharge parameters and modifiers of the [PhoenixFDSource](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/PHX4MAYA/pages/125895595) to achieve the desired effect when breaking.
6. **Start** the simulation.
