This page provides an overview of the file formats supported by Chaos Player.

 

## **Video file formats**

---

| **MP4** | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | Chaos Player reads any MP4 file supported by FFMPEG. **MP4 output** always encodes** H264 - MPEG-4 AVC** files without audio. |
| **AIVF** | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | **Chaos Player**'s proprietary audio-video format. |
| **AVI ** | :check_mark: | :cross_mark: | Microsoft Audio Video Interleaved format is supported as read-only. Chaos Player does not support writing to *.avi* files. |
| **WEBM** | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | WebM is an audio-visual media format. Note that rendering to WebM will not encode audio. |
| **WMV** | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | Microsoft's Windows Media Video format. Note that rendering to WMV will not encode audio. |
| **MOV ** | :check_mark: | :cross_mark: | The QuickTime video file format is supported as read-only. Chaos Player does not support writing to *.mov* files. |

> ℹ️ VRIMG is a Chaos proprietary file format used by the V-Ray Frame Buffer (VFB) to store the rendered image incrementally (bucket by bucket) while rendering in full floating-point format, with all available render elements. It is used as a render output but it is not recommended to use it as a texture file format. VRIMG contains metadata, i.e. render statistics. It supports dynamic bucket size.

> ℹ️ VRIMG can be saved just as any other image format – it can either be the render output format or it can be saved from the VFB.


## **Audio file formats**
