## **Overview**

> ℹ️ To install **V-Ray for Cinema 4D** with all other Chaos products included in your license at once, use [Chaos Installer](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/Installation/pages/776011795).
This guide is to serve as a reference for installing V-Ray for Cinema 4D.
If you wish to try out V-Ray for Cinema 4D, please refer to the [Free Trial](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/VC4D/pages/116857223) page, as the process differs from the one shown here.
The V-Ray installer can be unpacked and used as a [portable version](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/VC4D/pages/116852542).

A complete installation of V-Ray for Cinema 4D consists of:

> ⚠️ Make sure to always have the latest Cinema 4D updates installed.
Please check the [system requirements](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/VC4D/pages/116855102) before installation. When installing consecutively, the V-Ray installer automatically removes any of its previous versions.
## **Windows**

Before running the installation, make sure your Windows account has administrative privileges. Windows may ask you for permission to run the installer with administrator privileges. Please confirm.

> After you click the **Install **button, the installer uninstalls any previous versions and installs V-Ray on your machine.

> Participate in the improvement decisions for future versions of V-Ray. No intellectual property is violated when agreeing to participate in the feedback program. Chaos does not gather scenes, assets, materials, etc. This preference can be changed anytime from **Edit** > **Preferences **> **Renderer **> **V-Ray** > **Options** > **V-Ray Telemetry** > **Telemetry Details**. For more information, see the [Chaos Telemetry](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/VC4D/pages/116855132) page.

> **Anonymized Telemetry** – Includes the most used product functionality and/or ac:ac:parameter values. The data is not personally identifiable and is not tied to the user's individual account.

> These options offer additional customization for your installation. They are displayed if you click on the **Advanced** button at the beginning of the installation wizard.

> ### **V-Ray Type**

> The available installation types are:

> **Workstation** – A full installation that includes V-Ray for Cinema 4D, IPR for Cinema 4D, V-Ray Standalone, V-Ray Tools.

> **Standalone **– An installation that includes V-Ray Standalone and IPR render server. Please choose this option if you plan to use this machine only for [Distributed Rendering](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/VC4D/pages/116851098) with V-Ray Standalone and an IPR render server.

> Install Chaos Scatter – Enable this checkbox to install the Chaos Scatter plugin for Cinema 4D. Chaos Scatter is a powerful instancing tool that allows you to populate large scenes without reducing performance. For more information, go to the [Chaos Scatter](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/VC4D/pages/116855852) page.

> ### **Licensing**

> In this step, you can specify whether the Chaos License Server runs locally or on another machine.

> **Local** – This option installs the License Server on your machine. For a walkthrough, see the [Chaos License Quick Start Guide](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/VC4D/pages/116857255).

> **Remote **– This option allows you to configure your Chaos product for floating licenses in a local network. Fill in the IP address of the Chaos License Server in your network in the Primary License Server field. Please leave the port **30304 **unchanged. *For more details on this setup, see the *[License Server Deployment](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/LIC5/pages/124524875)* page*.

> If you choose the **Local **licensing option, you are presented with the Chaos License Server installation.

> At this step, you can choose the license server directory.

## **macOS**

Before running the installation, make sure your macOS account has administrative privileges.
Mount the downloaded *.dmg* file by double-clicking it and running the V-Ray Installer.
Follow the instructions of the installer.
> ℹ️ **For V-Ray versions older than V-Ray 6, update 1**

> ℹ️ On some macOS versions, the OS might present a security message that prevents you from installing. In such cases, right-click on the installer app and select **Open**, which allows the installation to continue. > ### **Chaos License Server Options**
>
>
> If you choose the **Local** licensing option, you are presented with the Chaos License Server installation.
>
> At this step, you can choose the license server directory.
>
> **Migrate data during installation** – When enabled, this feature transfers all of your settings made with earlier versions of the License Server, such as enabled dongle subsystem, proxy settings, etc. When disabled, installs the License Server with all settings at their defaults, and any custom settings from the previous installation are lost.
>
> **Add firewall exception** – When enabled, the default licensing port (TCP 30304) can pass the firewall. If you disable it at this step, you will need to manually [Adding Firewall Exceptions Manually](https://docs-chaos.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/LIC5/pages/124757553) later.

> After clicking **Continue**, you are directed to the [Chaos Telemetry step](#macOSend) and you will complete the advanced installation process.
