A common use of VRayDisplacementMtl would be applying displacement to different parts of a proxy geometry. Generally, the proxy is imported with various ready-to-use materials for each predefined part. Each part can be overridden with a different custom shader, utilizing the new displacement shader. To do so, select the material you wish to override and press the **Override Shader** button in the proxy settings. Use the shader that has the VRayDisplacementMtl connected.

This example showcases a scene featuring an imported proxy, a house set in a desert environment. The first render image shows the house and the ground with their default imported shaders. To make it more visually appealing, displacement is introduced in both shader networks - the house and the ground. See the expandable sections below on how displacement is used in connection with the other materials.
