This page provides information on performing a silent installation of V-Ray Standalone.

## **Overview**

---

A silent installation allows you to perform a complete V-Ray Standalone installation without any user input during the process, using either the default options (automatic installation) or, if desired, a predefined set of options (custom installation).

To use the **default options**, you need to run the installer file from the command prompt with the **-auto** argument. This option forces the installer to run without a user interface, and also automatically selects all the default options. A config file, containing the default installation options, is created at the end of the process.

> ⚠️ By using the Chaos installer for automatic installation with the **-auto **argument, you accept the [Chaos End User License Agreement](https://www.chaos.com/terms) and the [Chaos Global Consumer Privacy Policy](https://www.chaos.com/privacy).

To use a **predefined set of options**, you need to first create a configuration xml file that stores the installation parameters and then run the installer. You must use the **-gui=0** argument, which indicates to the installer that no visual dialog will be shown and all interactions will occur through the console. After that, you can set each of the installation options directly in the console. Adding the **-quiet=1** argument speeds this process by skipping the full output and leading you straight to the configuration options where you can set them as you prefer. When this process is finished, the config.xml file is created. After that, you can use it to run the installer again in the command prompt with your custom config.xml file.

> ℹ️ The **-auto** argument generates a configuration file using the default installation settings.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ The **-gui=0** **-quiet=1** arguments generate a configuration file with installation settings that you specify.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ You can inspect the configuration.xml files with a text editor and further modify the options listed there to suit your needs.

You can remove V-Ray Standalone from your machine similarly through a silent uninstall.

> Follow these instructions to perform installation with default settings and no graphical user interface.
>

> `vraystd_adv_7xxxx_x64_vc14.exe -auto`

>
> - Run the installation file from the command prompt with the ***-gui=0*** argument:
> `vraystd_adv_7xxxx_x64_vc14.exe -gui=0`
>
> > ✅ To suppress the full console output and speed up the generation of a config file, add the **-quiet=1** argument.
>
> - Follow the installer instructions and set up the installation as you want it to be on all machines. This creates a file named *config.xml* in the installation folder.
>
>
> **Run Config File**
>
> Once a **config.xml** file is generated, you can use it to pass the installation parameters to the installer on any machine in an automated way:
> `vraystd_adv_7xxxx_x64_vc14.exe  -gui=0 -configFile="xml_file.xml" -quiet=1 -ignoreErrors=1 `

>
> Follow these instructions to perform custom installation and generate a configuration file.
>
> - In the terminal, navigate to the location where you have extracted the `vraystd_adv_7xxxx_mavericks_x64_gcc-4.2-cpp.app` file.
> - Copy the .app file to a location with write permissions.
> - Inside Terminal, using the cd command, navigate inside the .app file and go to `vraystd_adv_7xxxx_mavericks_x64_gcc-4.2-cpp.app/Contents/MacOS/`.
> - In the terminal, enter:
> `./run_installer -gui=0`
>
> > ✅ To suppress the full console output and speed up the generation of a config file, add the **-quiet=1** argument.
>
> - You are then prompted for your password – enter it.
> - Follow the instructions of the installer and set up the installation as you want it to be installed on all machines. This creates a file named *config.xml*.
>
>
> **Run Config File**
>
> Once a **config.xml** file is generated, you can use it to pass the installation parameters to the installer on any machine in an automated way.
>
> - Move it outside the .app bundle, for example, next to the *vraystd_adv_6xxxx_mavericks_x64_gcc-4.2-cpp.app. *You can now install V-Ray Standalone on all machines by navigating to `vraystd_adv_7xxxx_mavericks_x64_gcc-4.2-cpp.app/Contents/MacOS/`* *and using the following command:
> `./run_installer -configFile="../../../config.xml" -gui=0 -quiet=1 -ignoreErrors=1 `

>
>
> **Custom Installation**
>
> Follow these instructions to perform custom installation and generate a configuration file.
>
> - Run the installer with the ***-gui=0**** *argument:
> `vraystd_adv_7xxxx_linux_x64_clang-gcc-6.3 -gui=0`
>
> > ✅ To suppress the full console output and speed up the generation of a config file, add the **-quiet=1** argument.
>
> - Follow the instructions and set up the installation the way you want it to be installed on all machines. Once the installation is complete a file named *config.xml *will be created in the folder from which the installation was run.
>
>
> **Run Config File**
>
> Once a **config.xml** file is generated, you can use it to pass the installation parameters to the installer on any machine in an automated way:
> `vraystd_adv_7xxxx_linux_x64_clang-gcc-6.3 -configFile="config.xml" -gui=0 -quiet=1 -ignoreErrors=1 `

## **Configuration file**

---

The ***config.xml*** file configures the automated installation. Below is an example of a config file.

```
<DefValues>
<Value Name="SHOULDUNINSTALL" DataType="value">1</Value>
<Value Name="PROGRAMFILES" DataType="value">C:\Program Files</Value>
<Value Name="STDROOT" DataType="value">C:\Program Files\Chaos\V-Ray\Standalone for x64</Value>
<Value Name="STARTMENUPROG" DataType="value">C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs</Value>
<Value Name="WIBU_VERSION" DataType="value">7.20.1230.500</Value> <Value Name="REMOTE_LICENSE" DataType="value">0</Value>
<Value Name="INSTALL_WIBU" DataType="value">1</Value>
<Value Name="WIBU_General_Gui" DataType="value">0</Value>
<Value Name="WIBU_RESTART_REQUIRED" DataType="value">0</Value>
<Value Name="CUSTOMIZE" DataType="value">1</Value>
<Value Name="REVERT_INSTALL" DataType="value">1</Value>
</DefValues>
```

**NOTE:** Not all of the settings of the default installer apply to the installation of V-Ray Standalone. Below is a description of the common variables that can be defined in the config.xml file:

| **Variable name** | **Variable description** |
| --- | --- |
| `STDROOT` | Specifies the destination folder for V-Ray Standalone |
| `REMOTE_LICENSE` | Specifies whether the V-Ray license server runs locally or on another machine.<br>0 - the license server runs locally on the same machine.<br>1 - the server is on a different machine in the network. |
| `SHOULDUNINSTALL` | Specifies whether or not the installation will uninstall previous version:<br>1 - uninstalls previous version<br>0 - skips the uninstallation of previous version |
